As many have noted over the past year, especially those who know me, I’ve been quiet lately… maybe, a little too quiet. The good news is that the quiet period is over, there’s a whole lot to talk about, and it’s going to be a hell of a 2026.
There was a lot going on in 2025, new projects (like RealGold) as well as changes at Holo and the Holochain Foundation -– and huge strides with both orgs as well. And so much happened at Unyt – which was originally contracted by Holo to rebuild HoloFuel and create the technology infrastructure for the HOT/HoloFuel swap. I felt like there was so much to build, that the talk needed to wait until we delivered more of it, so I kept my head down and got to work.
In September 2025, just four months ago, we announced the release of the Unyt crypto-accounting software and started revealing some of the power it packs inside. Every two weeks, we started unveiling products, capabilities, and infrastructure features which we had quietly created at Unyt.
We ended up delivering a whole lot more than anyone bargained for. As Eric Harris-Braun, Holochain’s Executive Director wrote:
“Unyt’s tooling turns out to be what people are calling “payment-rails”: generalized tooling for value tracking, and because it’s built on Holochain, it’s already fully p2p. [Which means]. . . increased transparency, agency, reduced cost, & privacy. And also in huge volumes: when talking about digital payments and transactions you count in the trillions. The implications are huge.”
Building good currencies, healthy economic flows, and increasing our collective intelligence around sharing value have always been behind the development of Holochain, and now I’ve finally gotten to build the kind of currency tools I’ve wanted for years. I believe these will revolutionize how we track and move resources in the world.
We prioritized feature building so we could have everything ready for the HOT swap and launch of HoloFuel; however, what excites us most is how our tools unlock so much more.
This coming Q1 2026 will mark our transition from releasing individual features to unveiling a complete economic ecosystem. This deliberate approach has taught us something important: the most transformative infrastructure often arrives not with fanfare, but through consistent delivery of smaller steps. As Q1 brings blockchain bridging, multi-currency trading, and cross partner value exchange online, you're not just witnessing feature releases; you're seeing the emergence of an economic coordination layer that is a truly scalable, sovereign value network for communities, machines, and organizations worldwide.
And we’re getting there fast.
Here’s what we already released in Q4 2025.
(with links to blog posts for deeper dive, downloadable files, and/or demo videos)
- The Unyt crypto-accounting engine including P2P payments
- Circulo as a simple approach to community currencies
- Smart Agreements for flexing the power of digital currencies
- Multi-language support along with performance enhancements
- Multiple orgs using multiple units -- Regional ride-share networks as an example
- Automated invoicing for DEPIN & IoT devices
- Communities & collaborative groupware with Unyt Accounting plugin
Here’s what’s coming up in Q1 2026
- Bi-Directional multi-unit payments: Unyt’s workflow updated to enable two parties to complete a single transaction which can involve multiple payment units in both directions. Impact: This enables currency market transactions which go beyond trading pairs
- Unit bridging and mirroring: Establish a bridging agent and smart agreements which bind internal “mirrored” units of account to external reserves in another digitally signed accounting framework (either other Unyt instances or TradFi sources which support digital signatures)
- Blockchain Bridging: Enables Unyt to bridge & mirror EVM-based blockchain tokens as an L2 space, including M of N notary signatures to exit and unlock the locked L1 tokens
- Market oracles & blockchain listeners: Enable validated oracles for external market pricing of units as well as inspection of data on block explorers.
- KYC / AML integrations & token gating: Have internal smart agreements integrate external KYC/AML services for compliance purposes so that Unyt software can power swaps and exchanges.
- Data migration & recovery options: Enable migration of balances and units across software versions and user agent migrations.
And, what's planned for Q2 2026, and beyond:
- Hash Explorer / Public Web Gateway
- Mobile Version (Likely Android first, then iOS)
- Measures, Metrics, & Performance units
- Ratings, Rankings, & Reputation units
- Certifications, Badges, & Token Gating
- Redeemable Token Certificates (portable self-proving claims?)
- Gateway marketplace auto-config/connection scripts
- Async/Offline transactions
- Stablecoin-backed remittances and payment infrastructure
Finally, don’t expect me to be as quiet as I have been. There’s so much more to demonstrate in Unyt, and some emerging partnerships we hope to be able to share about soon.
I’m proud of what we’ve built, where we’ve reached, and we’re working hard to push it even further. The value for everyone using Unyt’s tools and tech goes far beyond facilitating a swap; and as you can see, we’re in overdrive right now launching new products and features.
